Mother Teresa, the founder of the Missionaries of Charity, (A Roman Catholic religious congregation) was born in Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. She was an Albanian-born Indian Roman Catholic nun who was an Indian but a Roman Catholic. At the age of twelve, she felt strongly the call of God and knew she had to be a missionary to spread the love of Christ. At the age of eighteen she left her home and joined the Sisters of Loreto. After a few months training she was sent to India then she took her initial vows as a nun. She was fluent in five languages: Bengali,(the local language of the people of Kolkata)[5] Albanian, Serbo-Croatian, English, and Hindi. The Missionaries of Charity: While traveling by train to the Loreto convent in Darjeeling from Calcutta for her annual retreat Mother Teresa experienced what she later described as the call within the call. She began her missionary work with the poor in 1948, where she learned some medical basic training in the Holy Family Hospital. Although she had NO funds at all she depended on Divine Providence and not long after was she joined by volunteer helpers. In 2012 it consisted of over 4,500 sisters and is active in 133 countries. Mother Teresa died on September 5, 1997 but her works are still alive and she will always be remebered.
