Decisions, decisions making the choice to study abroad

Some people are relaxed and take life as it comes, others like to plan their life minute by minute. Im the kind of person that always tries to control everything. The kind of person that makes excel spreadsheets for trips, and overthinks when making any type of decision. With that in mind, you can already imagine how hard it was for me to quit my job of six years in Brazil and decide to go and do a one year Masters program in the U.S. Its not a bad thing to want to have control of aspects of your life, but one thing that I often need to remind myself of, is that you can’t control everything, no matter how hard you try. I made one of the most important decisions of my life. I bought a one-way plane ticket and I still don’t have any idea of where I’ll be or what Ill be doing after graduation. For a person that likes to control everything, it could sound rather scary. But amazingly, I feel fine about it all. Sometimes it feels good not to be in control. It can sound obvious, but sometimes you just need to enjoy the ride. If youre not enjoying the ride, youre definitely in need of a change. [Reaching your goals] will depend more on your attitude than the school or course that you choose. The meaning of change Change can mean a new job, a new city, a new hobby, or even just making more time to do the things that make you happy. For me, change meant studying in another country. Studying abroad is an investment of money, as well as an investment of your time. But as the word â€Å"investment† suggests, everybody involved is investing in something and waiting for a future return. For some people, the return will be a new job or a new career, for others the return will be life experience. Even after these two short months of study, I can already see that you can reach both objectives through doing a Masters at Hult, but it will depend more on your attitude than the school or course that you choose. If you are thinking about making this decision in the near future, be prepared to jump head first into this experience. The chances are, you wont regret it. If you are going to try, go all the way. Otherwise, don`t even start. Charles Bukowski Are you prepared? You might be thinking, â€Å"OK, youve convinced me that it would be a great experience, but I don’t know if I’m prepared for studying abroad.† If you asked current students if they felt fully prepared when they first signed up, most of them would most likely say a resounding no. Perhaps you worry about the language barrier in a foreign country. Maybe youre questioning whether or not its the right time in your life to do further study. I would say that if youre forever waiting for the perfect moment to try something new, the reality is, that at some point it may become too late. One thing that helped me a lot during my decision-making process was talking to someone that has done the same program before. In general, people tend to help others more when they have been in the same position as them before. If theyve been through it, they can relate and empathize. If you don’t know anybody to talk to, take a look on social media and find some Hult students. Or even better, talk to us the Hult Global Ambassadors. We are here to share a students perspective of what Hult life is like. If, after reading this, you are still not sure that a business school abroad is what you want, it isn’t a problem. For some people, this decision is made at 22 years old and for others at 49 years old. There is no right or wrong way in this respect. The most important thing, is to take this decision because it is what is right for you. Knowing your â€Å"why†, the â€Å"what† and â€Å"how† will follow. Good luck in your search. The Tragic Hero of Oedipus Rex Essay - 1383 Words

The Tragic Hero of Oedipus Rex According to the ancient Greeks and Aristotle the hero is a person who possesses superior qualities of mind and body, and who proves his superiority by doing great deeds of valor, strength, or intellect. In Sophocles Oedipus Rex the main character Oedipus possesses these characteristics of a true hero, which in turn lead to his self-destruction. In the beginning of the play Oedipuss great intellect is made known by the chorus who see him as someone who has proven his wisdom, someone who has single-handedly saved Thebes in years present from the Sphinx, and someone who is adored by his people. He displays his great intellect when the priest declares: You freed us from the Sphinx; you came to†¦show more content†¦However, Oedipus would be a hero for his defeat of the Sphinx, and his inward strength, not for his skills in combat. But surely, Oedipus is a great man, not in virtue of great worldly position, but as an illusion, which will vanish like a dream. Oedipus is great because of the virtue of his inner strength, strength to pursue the truth at whatever personal cost, and strength to accept and endure it when found. This horror is mine, he cries, and none but I is strong enough to bear it(Sophocles 1414). Oedipus had a very strong inward strength, Richard Jebb talks of this inward strength when he comments on Oedi pus, The Theban king #8230; has an inward sense of an strength which can no more be broken; of a vision clearer than that of the bodily eye(325). Oedipus inner strength is also shown when he asks Creon to drive him out of the land at once, far from everyones sight, where he will never hear a human voice ever again. Oedipus accepts his mistakes and will take whatever punishment is handed to him; not once does he cry and ask, why is this happening to me? Instead Oedipus punishes himself by gouging out his own eyes. Why though does he decide to blind himself? He tells us why; he has blinded himself in order to cut himself off from all human contact, if he could take away his other senses he would. Mother Teresa free essay sample

Mother Teresa, the founder of the Missionaries of Charity, (A Roman Catholic religious congregation) was born in Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. She was an Albanian-born Indian Roman Catholic nun who was an Indian but a Roman Catholic. At the age of twelve, she felt strongly the call of God and knew she had to be a missionary to spread the love of Christ. At the age of eighteen she left her home and joined the Sisters of Loreto. After a few months training she was sent to India then she took her initial vows as a nun. She was fluent in five languages: Bengali,(the local language of the people of Kolkata)[5] Albanian, Serbo-Croatian, English, and Hindi. The Missionaries of Charity: While traveling by train to the Loreto convent in Darjeeling from Calcutta for her annual retreat Mother Teresa experienced what she later described as the call within the call. She began her missionary work with the poor in 1948, where she learned some medical basic training in the Holy Family Hospital.
