Aboriginal Mental and Physical Well Being-Free-Samples for Students

Question: Examine about the Aboriginal Mental and Physical Well Being. Answer: Presentation This exposition means to address the announcement given in The Constitution for theNational Aboriginal Community Controlled HealthOrganization(NACCHO, 2011, p. 55). The exposition will focus round the various procedures to guarantee socially sheltered and profound prosperity in the patient. On the side of this announcement I have give procedures that can cover the hole between the indigenous and the westernized medicinal services. I have additionally ensured that my methodologies don't hamper the social security of the aboriginals. The later piece of the conversation tends to the significance of the community oriented consideration approach for the aboriginals. So as to break down the announcement in The Constitution for theNational Aboriginal Community Controlled HealthOrganization(NACCHO, 2011, p. 55), it is critical to comprehend social boundaries that forestall the indigenous individuals to get a legitimate human services. The native individuals have a shifted scope of social convictions that doesn't line up with the Westernized idea of the non indigenous Australian populace. The Indigenous individuals have a conviction that wellbeing is identified with upkeep of the existence adjusts (Taylor Guerin, 2010, p.123). They are profoundly associated with their convention and culture and have confidence in the customary strategies for treatment. Various explores state that the aboriginals and the Torres Strait Islanders experience a low standard of wellbeing contrasted with that of the non aboriginals. The purpose for this is multifactorial. The elements adding to this imbalance of wellbeing administrations are the prejudice, financial status, neediness, debilitation, separation and dispossession (Wepa 2015, p.22). The social insurance administrations gave by the legislature frequently don't meet the medicinal services necessities of the aboriginals. The native network wellbeing administrations have created so as to connect with the aboriginals. This association is overseen by the neighborhood indigenous network, by a chosen directorate. As state governments have would not offer any monetary help, contending that the aboriginals approach the standard consideration, The ACCH has been flourishing totally upon the gifts. ACCHS (Aboriginal people group controlled wellbeing administration) is a social insurance administration gave to the native Australians. The ACCHS planned for giving essential consideration to the aboriginals. As of now over a hundred network exists in Australia giving physical just as otherworldly help to the native individuals (Swan Raphael, 2006). So as to address profound prosperity in the aboriginals The Prime priest has taken Close the hole strategy system. This system had 6 explicit objectives which incorporate the future hole in an age, getting to instruction to all the native youngsters, decreasing the hole in perusing, composing and numeracy achievement for kids and diminishing the hole for Indigenous understudies in Year 12 fulfillment or comparable accomplishment rates by 2020; and reduce the hole in administration results among Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians in 10 years. The National native Torres Strait islanders plan has been set up by the Australian government so as to fill the holes in the wellbeing result with the native individuals. This arrangement has been set up in 2008, for handling the wellbeing equalities looked by the indigenous individuals (Best, 2009 p.25). The dreams of this arrangement are to make the Australian framework liberated from prejudice and imbalance and with the end goal that all the Torres waterway Islanders get high caliber, successful and reasonable administrations. The various standards of this arrangement are 1. The wellbeing disparity and the human rights. 2. Organization 3. Responsibility 4. Control of illnesses in the Aboriginal and the Torres Strait Islander people group (Swan Raphael, 2006. p.24). The Priorities of the arrangement is to constantly endeavor to improve the suitability, openness and effect. The system of this arrangement is to give a powerful, solid and dynamic successful network controlled wellbeing division. Proof based consideration must be rehearsed so as to give a physical and enthusiastic help to the aboriginals (Nielson et al. 2014.p.190-196). Care ought to be given with the end goal that the native moms and the infants get proper measure of care. The association ought to have the option to take care of the pace of the development and the advancement of the native kids, with the end goal that they develop into youthful solid grown-ups. It ought to be referenced that the greater part of the aboriginals don't depend on the non native method of treatment, due the injury of the past encounters. The feeling of bigotry, loss of qualities keeps the aboriginals from moving toward the westernized medicinal services. The medicinal services arrangement is ceaselessly to assemble nature of trust with the native individuals (Taylor Guerin, 2010, p.123). The native medicinal services plan assumed a significant job in a responsive and solid social insurance framework in Australia. The native medicinal services skillet had for the most part centered around the recognition and the administration of the incessant infections in the aboriginals. The difficulties for the South Australian wellbeing include commitment of the native network in their own consideration. The advancement of The Health in All Policies, is one explicit significant level methodology which assists with framing a creative staggered and imaginative arrangement improvement (King, Smith Gracey, 2009). This activity is being joined to improve wellbeing results in the youthful Aboriginal populace Every one of these systems can not just realize better results in their physical prosperity yet will likewise help in their general improvement throughout the years. It has just been referenced that in the greater part of the cases the aboriginals don't care for getting westernized medicinal services offices out of the occurrences that have transpired before (Durey 2010, p.44). In this way it is important to assemble a conducing situation for them so they gain admittance to the wellbeing offices. In the greater part of the cases improved social insurance settings are not accessible in remote spots. As an attendant it is essential for us to connect our hands to them, so they gain admittance to appropriate life sparing meds and different medicines. It is accounted for that native understudies and young people frequently experience the ill effects of supremacist explanations in schools and universities, it ought to be noticed that these dishonorable occurrence can leave enthusiastic scars on the mind of those youngsters, which may at last hamper their movement in close to home and expert life (Baker 2012, p.144). One significant part of an attendant is the acknowledgment of differing societies in a non one-sided way. As indicated by Best (2009), social security originates from the comprehension of a culture. Regularly indigenous individuals are confronted with institutional prejudice (Best 2009.p.256). As a medical attendant in my organization I ought to comprehend their custom, social convictions and ought to gradually cause them to comprehend the significance of the westernized medications. It ought to be remembered that wellbeing is subject to the way of life of any general public. The way of life keeps up and characterizes wellbeing (Baba et al. 2014, p.56). I have frequently gone over native patients with psychological well-being ailment. It is very trying for me to manage the patients family with various social convictions. A legitimate customer specialist relationship can build their dependability on us and help in adherence to the therapeutics. I have scattered and urged my friend attendant to set up programs including the indigenous patient and their families, where indigenous medicinal services experts will likewise be available to speak to the native culture. A cooperation of various individuals from a human services setting is required to accomplish the objectives. The medicinal services administration gave by my association ought not exclusively be limited to giving prescriptions, however ought to likewise have the option to grant information with respect to the significance of upkeep of wellbeing. Versatile dispensaries can be set up or clinical camps can be composed for the individuals who can't contact us. A collaboration from my association would have the option to achieve this. My treatment ought to completely concentrate on giving safe consideration to the kids and the youngsters, all encompassing consideration to the old people and moms. Despite the fact that the Australian government is consistently attempting to give an equable consideration to the aboriginals, they despite everything face with prejudice and carelessness. The aboriginals don't get appropriate Medicare offices and their financial status doesn't allow them to get to the costly westernized human services. In this way the potential wellbeing methodology ought to likewise concentrate on the cost adequacy; else it wont be reachable to all the layers of the general public. Besides upkeep of the social security can close the hole between the indigenous and the non indigenous human services (King et al. 2009, p.76-85). For having a decent wellbeing, it is significant for the aboriginals to take care of business the general public. It is our obligation to distinguish the diverse social determinants of native wellbeing. Tending to this social determinants would achieve improve wellbeing in the aboriginals (Carson et al.2007). As I have just referenced about t he equable Medicare framework which would help in halting the segregation, further more upkeep of social wellbeing would build their reliance on our treatment. It tends to be closed from the above article that the constitution of The Constitution for theNACCHO properly says that to elevate wellbeing to specific network, it is important to recognize the social determinants and take into account the physical just as otherworldly prosperity of the patient. The National native Torres Strait islanders plan has been built up by the Australian government so as to fill the holes in the wellbeing result with the native individuals. A legitimate community oriented arrangement like setting up portable dispensaries and projects can realize better results in wellbeing. References Baba, J.T., Brolan, C

Decisions, decisions making the choice to study abroad

Written by Raphael Fonseca, Global Ambassador and Masters in International Marketing student Class of 2018. There are many types of people in the world. Some people are relaxed and take life as it comes, others like to plan their life minute by minute. Im the kind of person that always tries to control everything. The kind of person that makes excel spreadsheets for trips, and overthinks when making any type of decision. With that in mind, you can already imagine how hard it was for me to quit my job of six years in Brazil and decide to go and do a one year Masters program in the U.S. Its not a bad thing to want to have control of aspects of your life, but one thing that I often need to remind myself of, is that you can’t control everything, no matter how hard you try. I made one of the most important decisions of my life. I bought a one-way plane ticket and I still don’t have any idea of where I’ll be or what Ill be doing after graduation. For a person that likes to control everything, it could sound rather scary. But amazingly, I feel fine about it all. Sometimes it feels good not to be in control. It can sound obvious, but sometimes you just need to enjoy the ride. If youre not enjoying the ride, youre definitely in need of a change. [Reaching your goals] will depend more on your attitude than the school or course that you choose. The meaning of change Change can mean a new job, a new city, a new hobby, or even just making more time to do the things that make you happy. For me, change meant studying in another country. Studying abroad is an investment of money, as well as an investment of your time. But as the word â€Å"investment† suggests, everybody involved is investing in something and waiting for a future return. For some people, the return will be a new job or a new career, for others the return will be life experience. Even after these two short months of study, I can already see that you can reach both objectives through doing a Masters at Hult, but it will depend more on your attitude than the school or course that you choose. If you are thinking about making this decision in the near future, be prepared to jump head first into this experience. The chances are, you wont regret it. If you are going to try, go all the way. Otherwise, don`t even start. Charles Bukowski Are you prepared? You might be thinking, â€Å"OK, youve convinced me that it would be a great experience, but I don’t know if I’m prepared for studying abroad.† If you asked current students if they felt fully prepared when they first signed up, most of them would most likely say a resounding no. Perhaps you worry about the language barrier in a foreign country. Maybe youre questioning whether or not its the right time in your life to do further study. I would say that if youre forever waiting for the perfect moment to try something new, the reality is, that at some point it may become too late. One thing that helped me a lot during my decision-making process was talking to someone that has done the same program before. In general, people tend to help others more when they have been in the same position as them before. If theyve been through it, they can relate and empathize. If you don’t know anybody to talk to, take a look on social media and find some Hult students. Or even better, talk to us the Hult Global Ambassadors. We are here to share a students perspective of what Hult life is like. If, after reading this, you are still not sure that a business school abroad is what you want, it isn’t a problem. For some people, this decision is made at 22 years old and for others at 49 years old. There is no right or wrong way in this respect. The most important thing, is to take this decision because it is what is right for you. Knowing your â€Å"why†, the â€Å"what† and â€Å"how† will follow. Good luck in your search. The Tragic Hero of Oedipus Rex Essay - 1383 Words

The Tragic Hero of Oedipus Rex According to the ancient Greeks and Aristotle the hero is a person who possesses superior qualities of mind and body, and who proves his superiority by doing great deeds of valor, strength, or intellect. In Sophocles Oedipus Rex the main character Oedipus possesses these characteristics of a true hero, which in turn lead to his self-destruction. In the beginning of the play Oedipuss great intellect is made known by the chorus who see him as someone who has proven his wisdom, someone who has single-handedly saved Thebes in years present from the Sphinx, and someone who is adored by his people. He displays his great intellect when the priest declares: You freed us from the Sphinx; you came to†¦show more content†¦However, Oedipus would be a hero for his defeat of the Sphinx, and his inward strength, not for his skills in combat. But surely, Oedipus is a great man, not in virtue of great worldly position, but as an illusion, which will vanish like a dream. Oedipus is great because of the virtue of his inner strength, strength to pursue the truth at whatever personal cost, and strength to accept and endure it when found. This horror is mine, he cries, and none but I is strong enough to bear it(Sophocles 1414). Oedipus had a very strong inward strength, Richard Jebb talks of this inward strength when he comments on Oedi pus, The Theban king #8230; has an inward sense of an strength which can no more be broken; of a vision clearer than that of the bodily eye(325). Oedipus inner strength is also shown when he asks Creon to drive him out of the land at once, far from everyones sight, where he will never hear a human voice ever again. Oedipus accepts his mistakes and will take whatever punishment is handed to him; not once does he cry and ask, why is this happening to me? Instead Oedipus punishes himself by gouging out his own eyes. Why though does he decide to blind himself? He tells us why; he has blinded himself in order to cut himself off from all human contact, if he could take away his other senses he would. Obesity Essays - Obesity, Body Shape, Bariatrics, Human Weight

Obesity Obesity also called CORPULENCE, or FATNESS, excessive accumulation of body fat, usually caused by the consumption of more calories than the body can use. The excess calories are then stored as fat, or adipose tissue. Overweight, if moderate, is not necessarily obesity, particularly in muscular or large-boned individuals. In general, however, a body weight 20 percent or more over the optimum tends to be associated with obesity. The body's ability to adjust food intake to body needs can be disturbed by numerous factors. Of these, hormone imbalances and glandular defects are believed to be of least importance, being demonstrable in only bout 5 percent of all obese individuals. Although obesity may be familial, suggestive of a genetic predisposition to fat accumulation, there is also evidence that early feeding patterns imposed by the obese mother upon her offspring may play a major role in a cultural, rather than genetic, transmission of obesity from one generation to the next. More generally, the distinctive way of life of a nation and the individual's behavioral and emotional reaction to it may contribute significantly to widespread obesity. Among the affluent populations, an abundant supply of readily available high-calorie foods and beverages, coupled with increasingly sedentary living habits that markedly reduce caloric needs, can easily lead to overeating. The stresses and tensions of modern liv! ing also cause some individuals to turn to foods and alcoholic drinks for "relief." Obesity may be undesirable from an aesthetic sense, especially in parts of the world where slimness is the popular preference; it is also a serious medical problem. Generally, obese persons have a shorter life expectancy; they suffer earlier, more often, and more severely from a large number of diseases than do their normal-weight counterparts. They are also more likely to die prematurely of degenerative diseases of the heart, arteries, and kidneys. More die of accidents and diabetes, and more constitute poor surgical risks than persons with normal weight. Mental health is also affected; behavioral consequences of an obese appearance, ranging from shyness and withdrawal to overly bold elf- assertion, may be rooted in neuroses and psychoses. The treatment of obesity has two main objectives: removal of the causative factors, which may be difficult if the causes are of emotional or psychological origin; and removal of surplus fat by reducing food intake. Return to normal body weight by reducing calorie intake is best done under medical supervision. Dietary fads and reducing diets that produce quick results without effort are of doubtful effectiveness in reducing body weight and keeping it down, and most are actually deleterious to health. (See dieting.) Obesity is to be distinguished from overweight caused by edema (excess retention of fluids) stemming from various diseases.

Critical Thinking Essays (762 words) - Bariatrics, Obesity

Critical Thinking Essays (762 words) - Bariatrics, Obesity Critical Thinking It is in our nature, much of our thinking is, distorted, partial, uninformed or down-right prejudice if it were left to itself (The Critical Thinking Community, 2009). We all think daily since our daily activities require us to decide on what we need to do, where to go, routes to take and what to wear. Those are the things that on a daily basis that requires minimal thinking. There are times we will encounter situations or problem that will require us to do some critical thinking. Critical thinking is that model of thinking- about any subject, content or problem- in which thinkers improve the quality of his or her thinking by skillful analyzing, assessing, and reconstructing it (Paul & Elder, 2006). To be a well- cultivated thinker, you need to raise vital questions and problems, gather and assess relevant information come to be well-reasoned conclusion and solution, think open-mindedly, and to communicate effectively with others in figuring out solutions to complex problems (Paul & Elder, 2006) I dont do a lot of critical thinking in the field that I currently work in but my personal life is a different story. A year and half ago, I struggled with my weight tremendously, trying to find ways to lose weight and nothing worked. After talking to a friend who had been put on the weight loss drug phentermine and how good it was working for her, I decided to talk to my doctor about it. I went to the doctors, not able to see my normal family physician, I saw another doctor who went over the different weight loss options such as gastric bi-pas surgery, which makes changes to your digestive system to help you lose weight by limiting how much you can eat or by reducing the absorption of nutrients, or both. (Gastric bypass surgery). The doctor went over some of the risk that included excessive bleeding, infection, adverse reactions to anesthesia, and leaks in your gastrointestinal system, gallstones, bowel obstruction, malnutrition, vomiting, and ulcers (Gastric bypass surgery), but my BMI (body mass index) was not high enough for my insurance to consider the surgery to be paid for and I did not think that I should be a candidate for that surgery because I did consider myself to be that much overweight. I mentioned to my doctor the phentermine drug, this is tablet indicated as a short-term adjunct in a regimen of weight reduction based on exercise, behavioral modification and calorie restriction in the management of exogenous obesity for patients with an initial body mass of 30 to 27 (Phentermine) and how I want like to try it, but the doctor said why wouldnt you just gain a few more pounds to increase your BMI so that you could have the gastric bi-pas surgery? The doctor proceeded to give me the some of the side effects of the drug including, chest pain, dizziness, fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse, dry mouth, sleeplessness, and difficulty having bowel movements (Phentermine Side Effects). After he said that I opted to wait and talk to my normal family physician and take into consideration both options that I was given either to gain more weight to have the surgery that I personally did not think I needed and taking a big risk of something going wrong or to just take a pill a day that would give me the energy and give me a bit more control over my appetite. I decided to just start on the phentermine and see what happens with that first, before even thinking about any drastic surgeries. I went back to see my normal family physician and after having the necessary blood work done, he gave me the prescription and two months later I was down 25 pounds. I got the results that I was looking for and without having to go under the knife. Using critical thinking allowed me to research all the information I needed and gave me all the options available before making my decision. It allowed me to take many things into consideration and to make a decision that was best. When making important decisions, such as the one I had made, its better to review

Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 35

Case Study Example First of all, the condition of the two mothers when their children became sick has to be given the first priority i.e. were they breast-feeding their children? Could they have been infected by the disease? Where they live and what type of food they eat when breast-feeding. In addition, it would be prudent to determine the age of the children, when they became sick for instance: Did they fall sick at the same age? Consequently, various environmental factors would be taken into consideration for example: The environment of the working place; where they come from; and the people they interact with at the work place. The second step would involve undertaking scientific tests on the factors identified to determine if they could cause diseases with similar symptoms. However, specific consideration would be given to the composition of the mother’s milk and if possible compared to the laboratory results of the breast milk of the co-worker: This is only possible if the laboratory results indicating the chemical component of the co-worker’s breast milk is available. Research indicates that there is a high sense of relationship between certain diseases and industries (Handley 2001). This is mostly evident when there is one family member working in an industry or when there is an industry next to a residential place. In this regard, there would be a case for the woman in the court (Handley 2001). However, such allegations would require proper proof/ medical evidence for the woman to win. On the other hand, there are various occupational health and safety laws that are applied in industries to not only protect the lives of the workers and the environment, but also their family members (Hartnett 2008). The woman win the case in the event that the court finds out that such rules are not properly followed by the company as

Marathon Running Essay Example for Free

Marathon Running Essay Runners come in all shapes and sizes. I have seen 300-pound men and women at the start of a race and in contrast the chiseled muscles of the elite runners. The reasons for running are as various as the runners themselves. Some run for weight lose, mental or physical health, competition, and charity. There are many physical health benefits for running; â€Å"Human bodies burn about 2,000-2,500 calories a day in normal activities. Running 5 miles a day can burn an additional 500 calories. † If this same formula holds true, a person completing a marathon will have burnt close to 2,600 calories. However, how fast a person doesn’t correspond with how much weight they may loose while running. â€Å"For example, a 220-pound person running an eight-minute mile burns 150 calories, while a 120-pound person running at the same pace burns only 82. Every person’s body requires an excess of 3,500 calories in order to gain a pound or a deficit of 3,500 calories in order to lose a pound. Thus, 180-pound person who runs 5 miles each day will lose about 5 pounds a month. However, as his or her weight goes down, he or she will burn fewer calories per mile† according to a study conducted at Vanderbilt University. According to Runner’s World editor Hal Higgdon. â€Å"Running can also have many psychological benefits. Most significantly runners typically report being happier and feeling less stressed than their counterparts who do not run or exercise regularly. Running actually has the ability to alter an individuals moods because hormones called endorphins are released while running. These hormones create a sense of euphoria often referred to as a runner’s high and can result in an improvement in the runner’s mood. † With these endorphins being released into the runner’s body, running can be very addictive. A man or woman can feel like they’ve been turned into Michael Jordan and anything, even running 26 miles, is possible. Running a marathon and the distances to train are also almost spiritual. When I run I am able to solve my companies, personal, families, and the whole worlds problems. I have come up with some of the most life altering and affirming choices in the sunrise of an 8-mile run. Running is also a great stress reliever while running I am able to focus on the road and the miles as they build. I am able to forget about the office, family, or other concerns. There are 26. reasons why a marathon is hard. To put this distance in perspective if you were to drive your car at 60 mph it would take a half an hour to drive that distance. But while running the marathon there is no downtime. You’re the machine, says physical therapist Jim Wharton of New York-based Wharton Performance, which trains world-class athletes. The debate about the difficulty of the marathon, doesn t center just on the physical aspects. Motivation, confidence and mental toughness are necessary, says Stephen Russo, director of sports psychology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Health System. Running is painful; it’s tedious, and exhausting. After a few miles our bodies scream for us to stop and rest. When the body screams stop that is when the mind takes over and you keep running. Through my experiences in running and race competitions I can say a marathon is not something that can be described it is something must be experienced. In a marathon the participant will be competing against hundreds and in larger races thousands of other hopefuls. In many marathons time restrictions are placed on which the marathon will end. -8 hours after the marathon has began, barricades will be removed and the race rout will be dismantled. If a runner is unable to finish in the allotted time the race officials may take them to the finish line and will not allowed to finish. However during those 6-8 hours a runner can run, jog, or walk any distance they want. When Khalid Khannouchi won the London Marathon last year, he didnt do any walking: He set a world record of 2 hours, 5 minutes and 38 seconds. For elite athletes like Khannouchi distance running is a way of life. Marathoners seem either to be training or getting ready for the next workout. You wake up every morning and you know what you have to do. You have long mileage to accumulate. Sometimes youre already tired from your last two or three workouts. You still have to wake up, have the motivation and go outside and do the training. † Khannouchi said. For me running is not simply about the weight loss or the constant inquires of family, friends, and co-workers who ask, â€Å"How many mile(s) did you run today? † When I run I am only accountable to my trusty stopwatch and myself. The marathon is my Everest. I will be back. Standing there with hundreds of other runners in tank tops and short on a cold fall morning, waiting for the starter pistol. I dont run for the medal or the crowd I run for me. I run despite the 9 times out of 10 it will hurt, but I keep going. I run for that one time that it doesn’t and I am able to finish my run and look down at my stop watch and be excited about a new personal best time, if only a few seconds. I run because I know it will hurt but I keep going and I won’t give into the pain. I am an athlete. I am runner.

Wal-Mart: Good for American Cities and Towns Essay -- Business Analysi

Wal-Mart has been a staple of America since July 2, 1962, when Sam Walton opened the first Wal-Mart Discount City store. Within a few years, Wal-Mart Discount City stores began to spread across the country. In 1968, it opened its first stores outside Arkansas, in Sikeston, Missouri and Claremore, Oklahoma. Sam Walton found success in offering consumers options and variety. Since that first store opened, Wal-Mart has now entered the grocery business and now the company controls about 20% of the retail grocery and consumables business. This says a lot about a man who began his retail career after working just 18 months at J.C Penny. Sam Walton found success early on with offering variety, and options when no one else was. Consumers want more for their dollar and Wal-Mart has centered their focus on this idea, and has not apologized for that fact. In fact, Wal-Mart’s sole existence relies on the consumers search for the lowest priced goods. Wal-Mart has transferred itself from a simple variety store into Wal-Mart Supercenter and has other chains which include Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market and Sam’s Club. Wal-Mart Inc. has found a way to offer options to the consumer not classically offered in grocery. By offering options such as an optical center, one-hour photo processing lab, Tire & Lube Express, and even in some cases hair and nail salons, pet shops, and pharmacies, Wal-Mart has taken steps to break the mold and offer consumers options that other stores cannot and has done a good job at that. With these types of options you could be in a Wal-Mart Superstore for hours and complete all of your afternoon shopping. This idea isn’t lost on Wal-Mart Inc., now offering the ability to get a money order from the ATM shows also why Wa... ...s prices gasoline cheaper then local competitors. Wal-Mart also has donated more than $1.5 million national BackPack Program, The Nation’s Food Bank Network will deliver backpacks filled with nutritious, protein-rich food to school children in need. With the money raised thousands of backpacks filled with much needed food for school children to take home. It has helped to rasie funds and build awarness it the problem of hunger, with a â€Å"Be A Part Of The Solution To End Hunger† campaign. Wal-Mart Inc has done a great job at bringing together what is local to the area and what isn’t and bringing to many small towns. So when a Wal-Mart stands up, it isn’t just Wal-Mart Inc who benefit, but the community. Adventure on an Island

‘’John and Alice, for your exemplary performance in your year-end examinations, we are going for a little family holiday. ’’ said James Brown, father of John and Alice Brown. ‘’Where? Where? ’’ asked the children excitedly. ‘’We’re going to a place that offers unlimited peace and quiet. That place is Bermuda. And while you’re there†¦Ã¢â‚¬ ¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ James spoke at length about proper etiquette and how it would affect them. Although it was quite boring, it would have benefitted them if they had paid attention instead of playing rock-paper-scissors. On the ship en route to Bermuda, the children lived like there was no tomorrow. They piled food on their plates with a lot of everything they liked. Sure enough, they couldn’t finish it. So they quietly poured the remnants of their unfinished food overboard. As they did this, a snippet of their father’s speech came back to them. ‘’When there is a lot of food, take only a little. If it isn’t enough, go back and take some more. This is much better than taking a lot and then throwing it away just because you can’t finish it. ’ ‘’It’s not like we are going to do this for the rest of our lives,’’ reasoned the children. ‘’It’s only the first time. Dad doesn’t have to know. ’’ Sadly, this wasn’t the only misconduct the children committed. They also took things offered by polite stewards and stewardesses without saying thank you. Laden with food and drink, the chi ldren were too lazy to properly dispose of the plastic wrappers from their snacks. Instead, the two irresponsible children burned those wrappers. ‘’Don’t ever burn things, especially plastic. Plastic is extremely toxic. Whatever you do, don’t burn it. ’’ ’’We’re actually saving space and helping people,’’ thought the children. ‘’ Don’t they burn plastic in incinerators? If we don’t burn them, these plastic is going to end up in landfills, which take up a lot of space. Yes, we’re doing a good thing. ’’ And soon after doing this, the two children fell asleep. The two children soon woke up to terrible heat on the island. ‘’Hey! Why is the sun so hot all of a sudden? ’’, wondered the children. Being clever children, they had the answer in no time. ’’It’s global warming! ’’ said Alice. ’The ozone is thinning because people burn plastic and†¦.. ‘’ she stopped in mid-sentence. ’’Oh dear, we just did it on the ship! ’’ said John. ‘’Oh, never mind John. What’s done is done. Why don’t we explore the island? ’’ On their way, they saw a small lake full of dead fish. Curious, the two children decided to investigate. The pond was saturated with rubbish! It wasn’t only rubbish but with bits of rotten food. ‘’Look at the rubbish! Wasn’t that the fried chicken we couldn’t finish? And aren’t those the bits of salad? What have we done? ’’ Shortly after that, they saw some gulls. Instead of white and grey, the gulls were black and some kind of liquid dripped from them. As the children came closer for a better look, they saw that the patch of sea that the gulls have previously risen from had a thick layer of oil above it. It was the last straw for the two. ‘’Enough! We can’t take anymore! ’’ cried the children. ‘’From now on, we’ll follow our father’s advice and never be wasteful! ’’ And that was when they woke up. Still thinking the terrible discovery was true, the children ran to their parents, confessed and apologized to them. ’ What nonsense! ’’ said James Brown. ‘’We are still on the ship, not an island! You two must be having a bad dream. Something to do with your overeating, I shouldn’t wonder. But it was a very good thing you two summoned up the courage to own up. Remember your dream so that you will never go wrong. ’’ And s o the Brown siblings learnt their lesson and changed their mindset towards the environment once and for all. Mother Nature is not infinite, the children learnt. Although she may be all-powerful, she still needs help. Let us take good care of the environment.
